MGM Group at bauma CONEXPO Africa 2024

MGM Group successfully concluded its participation at bauma CONEXPO Africa 2024, held March 11-14 at the Johannesburg Expo Centre in South Africa. The exhibition — Africa's largest construction and mining machinery trade fair — attracted over 40,000 visitors from 75 countries, and MGM Group's stand was one of the most visited in the international pavilion.

What We Showcased

Our 120 m² stand featured products and solutions from four divisions, each tailored to the African market:

• MGM Energy — Complete solar power systems including 550W bifacial panels, string inverters, and ground-mount structures. A live demonstration showed real-time energy monitoring via our IoT platform
• MGM Housing — A full-scale prefab villa section, allowing visitors to walk through and experience the build quality firsthand. The light steel frame system drew particular interest from mining companies seeking worker accommodation
• MGM Container — 20ft and 40ft container office and accommodation modules, configured for mining and construction camp applications. Visitors could tour a fully fitted container office with air conditioning, electrical systems, and furniture
• MGM Mining — Scale models of crushing plants and screening equipment, with technical specifications available for operations from 50 TPH to 500 TPH capacity

Key Outcomes

The four-day exhibition generated significant business results:

• 320+ qualified leads from 18 African countries
• 12 MOU signings with distributors and project partners
• 3 project contracts signed on-site, totaling $4.2 million
• 87 meetings conducted with pre-registered VIP visitors
• Strongest interest from mining sector (42%), followed by energy (28%) and construction (19%)

Industry Insights from the Show Floor

Conversations with hundreds of African construction and mining professionals revealed several clear trends. Off-grid solar power is no longer a niche — it's becoming the default for remote mining and construction operations across the continent. Prefabricated housing is gaining mainstream acceptance, with several government agencies expressing interest in MGM's systems for affordable housing programs. And mining equipment buyers are increasingly looking for turnkey solutions rather than purchasing individual machines.

Building on Momentum

Following the exhibition, MGM Group is accelerating its African market strategy. The new Nairobi regional office (opened April 2024) will provide local support for the leads generated at bauma, while a dedicated follow-up team is working through the 320+ inquiries to convert them into active projects. We are also exploring partnerships with local construction companies in Ghana and Mozambique, where demand for our solutions is particularly strong.
